Yedike is a simple person who has been living in Sarı Özbek village for many years and working on the railways. One day, while he was keeping watch on the railways, his wife Ukubala came to him and said that his best friend Kazangap had died. Yedike immediately goes to his friend and wakes up the whole village. For the first time in the village, someone dies. Sarı Özbek village is a village of eight households. No one can afford the winter or summer of that village, it is very harsh. Kazangap's son Sabitcan comes to the village as soon as he receives the news of his father's death. Sabitcan is an educated man and despises the villager. Years ago, he lost his father's property and left his father in the middle. His brother Ayzade and his wife also attended the funeral. Yedike tells her friend Kazangap that he should be buried in the Ana Beyit cemetery, which is far from the village, upon his will, and at first, his son Sabitcan objects to this situation, but he cannot resist Yedike. That night, the dead are washed and preparations are made, and in the morning they set off. Emotional on the way, Yedike remembers the memories of his first visit to the village, the gift of his camel Karanar to him by Kazangap, and many more.

Yedike lives near the Aral lake and fishes. Then war breaks out and he has to join the war. He goes to war, leaving his wife, Ukubala, and his eight-month-old child. He gets a blow to the head in the war and has to withdraw from the war. He can return to his village with great difficulty. When he returns, he learns that his child has passed away. Due to the blow to the head in the war, he lost his former strength. In order not to get bored with his self-deprecating villagers and not have any financial difficulties, he takes his wife Ukubala and says that if I can't find any job, he leaves his village and sets out. He finds daily jobs on the road, but because he still can't regain his old strength, Ukubala does most of these jobs. One day, while working like this, he meets Kazangap and they become very good friends in a very short time. Kazangap invites Yedike and his wife to his own village, Sarı Özbek, and finds a job in Yedike. He gives his camel, which he named Karanar and whom he loves very much, to Yedike. While they are working together and earning their living, another family comes to the village. Zarife is a family with two children named Abutalip, Daus and Ermek. Abutalip and Zarife are teachers. Abutalip, who participated in the war but was despised in his own village because he was captured in the war, and was dismissed from his profession, took refuge in Sarı Özbek village with his family. They all begin to live happily together. Abutalip gives reading lessons to his and Yedike's children every night. Time passes and Yedike begins to fall in love with Abutalip's wife Zarife, but she hides her feelings by keeping them inside. One day the inspector comes to see the railways
